How to be a Successful NGU (Non-Grown Up) Part 1
Always Question Authority
As a NGU it is your duty to be in charge of your own destiny. As such, it is important to realize, much of what we do every day; we only do because someone else told us to do it! Is it what I want to do? Is it what I should do? Does it compromise my morals and what I believe? We must ask these questions concerning our own actions everyday. Why are you matching your socks, mowing your lawn, using straws, writing in cursive, working 9-5, or even having children? If what we are doing is simply because “I was told to”, or “because that’s the way society is” we need to nix that Nazi-mentality and take a good look at the authority doing the telling.
Question ALL authority. This includes:
- government
- police
- religion
- teachers
- grocery store managers
- and yes, even your own parents.
Yes that’s right! They all do not always have your best interest at heart. Thus the need to question authority. What can you ask? Well you are going to need to know a few things before you can comply to any authority.
Blindly following any authority can only lead to corruption. It is only those pretending to be grown up who will try to use force or Dictatorship as a means of leadership. This includes all the “because I said so’ers” as well. These are drastic measures that a leader must take when they don’t have a leg to stand on. You see it in politics, the police say “because it’s the law,” teachers who are too lazy to explain, OR simply when the authority is ALSO blindly following a higher authority! Things can get sticky the more you questions authority.
BUT how will I know what to do??? Well most need for authority is simply a need for encouragement. Living life is a very natural thing, it really just happens on it’s own, so this is good for us, because there really is no need for authority, maybe even no need to adhere to any authority as long as you are willing to keep an open mind and let wisdom guide you. We are born with the instinct to do what we need to do to get what we want. If we don’t know how, that is about problem solving. Sometimes it is difficult to know if you are making a mistake. But the best part of all is that life is about making mistakes!!! You learn from these mistakes, so get learning!
There are only three rules to questioning Authority:
Rule I Take notice of all the questionable Authority figures you know:
Rule 2 Question them.
Rule 3 Never talk about Fight Club!
